When will Android 4.0 be released?
The question on so many tablet and android phone owners lips, is when are we going to seeAndroid 4.0 released? It is not an easy question to answer as we have only in real terms, just had the release of Android 3.0 Honeycomb. It was not that long ago really that I was playing with my Android 2 smart phone wondering when Honeycomb was going to be released and now I am happily using my Samsung Galaxy s2 with its Android 3.0 honeycomb operating system.
However as is the nature of people, once we have the latest and greatest we are then looking to the future for the next big thing and in my eyes the next big thing is anAndroid 4.0 tablet. Only yesterday I put out an article about the Novo7 running incream sandwich and being sold for $99. 
It looks great and it being a 7inch tablet fan, I will be getting one as soon as it is available.
So the question still is when is the Android 4.0 release date? The answer is, technically it is already released. What we really want to know is when will tablets flow onto the market taking advantage of this latest operating system from Google and that is the harder to answer question. Yes the cheaper Chinese tablets are on their way but when will the bigger players step onto the plate? Companies like Motorola, Asus, HTC and of particular interest for me is Samsung.
The latest press releases from these companies are a little vague but I will summarize them below (note these are smart phone release dates and not tablets):
Motorola has announced that it will be upgrading it’s well received phone the RAZR to the new Android 4 operating systrem, early in 2012.
Samsung will be upgrading its Galaxy Series in the new year also.
HTC also plans an early 2012 release date for its Android 4 products.
So what have we learned here? not a lot! The phones are being upgraded and tested as we speak but will not be released until the new year for practical reasons. The tablets which we are all interested in should follow quickly on the heels of the smart phones.
What is my plan of attack? Well I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 phone and will try and upgrade it to Ice Cream Sandwich if there is an upgrade path. I have done this sort of thing before and it has usually ended in tears but I am a glutton for punishment. I will then be getting myself a cheap Novo7 android 4 tablet and wait for the Android 4 release of the Motorola Xoom tablet. Why? because this is what I run at the moment in Android 3 flavour and I want to see how the new operating system makes my life easier or harder!
