Samsung to make a Non Android Tablet Computer
Wow, I guess it was always on the cards. However I have to admit that this one caught me off guard. Samsung has announced a new range called the “ATIV” apparently it is named after the reverse of the latin word Vita (meaning life).
The windows phone will be called the Samsung Ativ S with the following specifications :
- 4.8 inch phone and 8.7mm think
- 720p Super AMOLED HD display
- 1GB of RAM
- 8 Megapixel RFC and a 1.9 Megapixel FFC
- 16GB and 32GB models
- A microSD slot
- Brushed aluminium frame
- Gorilla Glass screen
Samsung already make the excellent Series 9 Windows Ultrabook so it isn’t to much of a leap to see them move into the Windows Tablet PC space. In some respects a windows tablet is probably a better fit for Samsung and Microsoft would make a powerful Ally in Samsung’s ongoing legal war against Apple.
So what will this tablet look like? Samsung has already said that ATIV line up will include a 11.6 inch Smart PC and and a 10.1 inch ATIV Tablet. The jury is still out on whether Samsung will do a 7 inch version (Samsung if you are reading this Pardon the Pun) . However based on how Popular the Galaxy tab 7.0 and the rampant runaway sales of the Galaxy Nexus 7. Speaking of the Nexus 7, interestingly the Nexus phone was a Google/Samsung collaboration, while the Nexus 7 is a Google/Asus collaboration. One does have to wonder if Samsung and Google have had some kind of split. Either because Samsung decided to make Windows tablets and phones or because Google decided to team up with Asus on the Nexus 7. We may never know but it is something interesting to think about. Anyway you read it here first!
